Things Toddlers Say

Happy Tuesday! We might be a little sleep-deprived, but we are adjusting nicely! Lots of sweet friends bringing us meals, and lots of snuggles in front of the TV right now. Real life, y’all.

Me: Did you have fun last night?
EK: (head nod)
Me: Did you sleep late this morning?
EK: No, I got out of bed in Necie’s room and I snuggled her.
Necie: At a quarter to 6…

EK: Mom, when you get bigger like Daddy, you can reach the tomatoes. (Our lattice goes high enough that I can’t really reach the tomatoes at the top of the vines.)
Me: I don’t think I’m going to get any bigger, babe. I’ve done all my growing.
EK: Oh. Maybe we can get a ladder for you.

My dad, visiting for the weekend, said this to EK: I just want to take you back to Georgia with me forever!
EK: Weeeellllll… You can’t. I’m so sorry.
(It was delivered very politely.)

J: Kwick! Kwick! (That’s him turning on and off all the light switches in the house.)

EK, to everyone ever: Look! Look at my new brother! Hey! You! LOOK AT MY NEW BROTHER!
Everyone: …okay. I see him. He’s cute..?

EK: I’m so pretty! (Those are stickers.)

EK: Ring around the rosie! Pocket full of posies! Ashes, ashes, all fall down!
What the uneducated listener hears: Ring around the rosie! Pocket fulla posies! Ah sh*t, ah sh*t! All fall down!

Genealogy lesson:
Hubby: EK, who are my brothers?
EK: Wesley, Hartley, G-Daddy…
Me: Yikes! (G-Daddy is my dad.)
Hubby: And who is my mommy?
EK: Hmm, let’s see… Annie must be!
Totally correct answer. Still glad my hubby isn’t my uncle.

This morning, D ended up sleeping till after the bigs got up (you know, after he was up at 6:30), so we were having breakfast when we heard him cry.
EK: Mom! You gotta get Davis! He said, “I’m hungry! Come get me out of bed!”
She’s a good interpreter.

What are your kiddos saying these days?

Currently

Hey, y’all! I might be a day late on joining my usual Currently link up, but better late than never, right? I’m joining Becky at Choose Happy and the other fabulous bloggers to bring you this week’s Currently. Join us to let us know what’s going on with you currently!

Enjoying || some sweet moments between all the siblings. EK and j have been getting along a little better (I’m scared to type that for fear it’ll make it stop) and D has been getting some incredibly sweet snuggles from both of them. Lots of hugging and kissing around here, y’all.

Hoping || to get a few specific pictures this week. As of right now, the only picture of the five of us is yesterday’s epic selfie (below), and I’ve only got one (okay) picture of the three kids. Part of me is saying, “Eh, there’s a lifetime to get those pictures.” But the rest of me wants at least one while D is still tiny! Here’s hoping I get a better one than this:

Trying || to stick to a schedule. Having a newborn is tough when they’re supposed to eat every two hours. Try keeping up with that while also making sure the other two are entertained and have what they need, as well as pumping a couple of extra times a day to keep my supply up? Bordering on impossible. To heck with laundry and dishes. Yikes.

Thankful for || an incredible husband who’s been taking a late-night shift with D to let me get some sleep early on in the night. He’s a rockstar, y’all.

Reading || the last bit of the Maze Runner series. I’m in the book that is actually a prequel to the rest of the books… so I’m getting that back story I was craving the whole time! When I finish this, I’ll be working on Loving the Little Years  and starting something else to be my “pleasure reading”. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Well, that’s all for now. Please comment and let me know what you’re up to!

Things Toddlers Say

 Happy Tuesday!

Reasons my son is crying:

Because he wanted to sit in the doll stroller, but as he sat down, it rolled away. He landed in the exact position he is shown in here.

Sibling sameness: This is definitely a season of mimicking. Anything EK can do, J (thinks he) can do better.

Hubby has been making pourover coffee recently, and boiling his water in a stove top kettle. Every time the kettle whistles, EK shouts: “Daaaaaad! Your coffee’s dooooooone!” Which of course isn’t strictly true… But it’s still adorable that she’s yelling that all through the house.

Life of a nursing mother…
EK: Mom, do you have milk in your boobs?
Me: …yes…

J: Mommy?
Me: Yes?
J: Umm… I… (jabbering to finish the sentence).
I think it’s adorable that he starts with “Umm” and “I…” When he starts a sentence.

EK had a friend over the other day, who was playing a “game” on one of our old cell phones we keep as toy phones (that have had dead batteries for years). He was telling us about the “game” he was playing…
S: This is a zombies game!
Hubby: Zombies?
S: Yeah! About zombies!
Hubby: What kind of zombies?
S: Ebola zombies!
Everyone: ???

EK, unprompted, jumping up from the dinner table: Okay, I’m gonna go get my things!
(Goes to get some blocks.)
EK: Okay! I got my things! (Silence) Ahem! I got my things!!!
Everyone: ….?

Here’s a little gem my mom told me about: EK kept getting up out of bed, and saying she needed to poop. That’s her new thing she knows will buy her a few minutes out of bed, because we’re too scared to send her back to bed without trying to go. (Ain’t nobody got time to clean up a poopsplosion.) So my mom took her to the bathroom – no poop – and she put her back to bed. As she was tucking her in…
Necie (my mom): I love you, even if you are a stinker who likes to push your mom’s buttons.
EK: I looooooove to push Mom’s buttons!
Girl after my own heart, right?

Because lunch…

EK: I want a butter shammick!

(That’s threenager code for “peanut butter sandwich”.)

On Sunday, my mother-in-law picked EK up for a play date. A few minutes after they had left, I got this text from her: We got home and Joe is up on the roof trying to put some silicone where we had a leak the other day. Ella Kate got out of the car and said, “Gon Gon, what in the world are you doing up on that roof, silly?! Now you be careful up there!”

Hubby was cleaning up our storage room while I put the big kids to bed, and as I went to tell him they were down for the night, EK pranced in behind me. Naturally, she requested a daddy snuggle, and I said he’d have to figure out how to get out of there in a few minutes. Her response…

EK: Yeah, Daddy’s gonna have to jump right over that bathtub! (The baby bathtub.) He’s gonna jump right over it like a rabbit! Then he’s going to turn INTO a rabbit! Then I’ll never see my dad again.

Me: ….Okay, well, I’ll send him in for a kiss in a minute… (Whaaaa?!)
What’s your toddler been saying?!

Things Toddlers Say

Helloooooo, Tuesday! I wouldn’t want any of y’all to think that since we’ve got a new baby in the house, the big kids aren’t as funny! So naturally, I’ve been making an extra effort to jot down the sillies… so here they are!

Grey’s Anatomy…
EK, pointing at D’s cord that hasn’t quite fallen off: What’s that?
Hubby: That’s going to be his belly button. This little part is gonna fall off.
EK: Yeah, it got broke.

EK went swimming with her grandmother Annie one afternoon, and got a bath afterwards before she came home. When bath time came about that night, she totally undressed and started climbing in the tub…
Me: Didn’t you already get a bath after the pool?
EK: Yeah.
Me: So why do you need another one?
EK, brushing the hair out of her face: I got really sweaty…
(There was only about two hours between the bath and the second bath, in which she ate dinner and put together a puzzle. Nothing sweaty about it.)

J, upon receiving a Jellycat (if you don’t know them, look them up!) frog from my aunt: Hop! Hop! Hop! (Hops around the kitchen)
Jan (my aunt): Can you say “ribbit”?
J: Hop!
Jan: Ribbit!
J: Hop! Hop!
Me: I guess all he cares about is the movement frogs do?

So he didn’t say anything, but J gave Elsa at least 3 high fives while I was watching. Can’t leave a girl hanging.

EK: I had a great day at camp today!
Necie: That’s great!
EK: Tomorrow, I have another great day!
Necie: Wonderful, EK!
EK: Tomorrow, I gon’ paint a seashell for Joe Joe. And one for Davis, and Mommy and Daddy and Jan and Nana and Abby!
Necie: You’re gonna be busy!

Hydration is important…
EK: Oh! Mom! My wattle bottle!

Singing to my kids…
Me: Joseph, Joseph, here he comes! Joseph, Joseph, cute as… Plums..?
Hubby: Yeah! Plums! Good job babe!
Me: Should’ve abandoned that rhyme.

Things Toddlers Say

Happy Tuesday! What a week it’s been since last Tuesday… we are talking HUGE life changes for everyone around here, adding baby D to our ranks! Lots of cute things happening in the toddler world…

This catches pretty truthfully the chaos and love surrounding our little D at all times.

When talking about the theme of next week’s summer camp (ocean commotion)…
EK: I’m a mermaid, just like you! And Joseph’s a shark, just like dad. We all have tails.
Science, y’all.

Swinging outside in the backyard…
EK: this is the best party ever!

As we are pulling out of the driveway (in our old car)…
EK: Bye bye, new car! We can ride in you later, when baby Davis gets born!
What can I say? She loves it.

Seeing D for the first time, in the hospital…
Hubby: EK, who is this?
EK: Baby Davis. (Looks around skittishly.)
Hubby: Isn’t he cute?
EK: (Looks quickly at D, then quickly away again.) Mmhmm.
Hubby: Do we love him?
EK: Mmhmm. (Looks for approval.)
Hubby: Want to give him a kiss?
EK: (Fastest ever) Mwah.
Me: Maybe she’ll like him better at home?

The next evening, when we brought D home…
J: Mommy! Baby! Mommy! Baby!
EK: It’s my baby brother Davis! (Continues on for five minutes, talking to D, talking about D, and kissing D, all the while she and J are alternately trying to climb in the infant seat with him.)

Last night, while snuggling in my bed before she went downstairs to her room…
EK: Mommy, are those your jewries? (Jewelry)
Me: Yep!
EK: When the sun comes up, you can put on your jewries and go to church and siiiiing… And I can put on my jewries and go to church too! We gon’ have so much fun!

EK to my mom: Let me check your baby. (Holds stethoscope to her belly.) I gotta see if her’s in there.

EK, on toenail polish: I wanna pick out my color! I want barkle! (Sparkle. – I hope.)

On our first full day home, I was in the chair in the nursery (a La-Z-Boy rocker/recliner that I LOVE, aka big enough to hold me and plenty more) nursing D, and J came in. He carefully chose a book, climbed gingerly into the chair to sit next to me, and “read” the entire book (Room on the Broom, which we love, even this far away from Halloween) to D and me. It was one of the sweetest things I’ve experienced so far… A sweet little date with my boys.

Currently… Introducing Our Newest Addition!

I’m linking up this week as usual with Becky at Choose Happy, bringing you the most exciting news I will likely have for a long time!

Introducing || Davis Ryan! Born last Thursday, very early in the morning, after a hard albeit short labor and quick delivery. He weighed 7lbs 15oz, and measured 21 inches long (the same length as his brother and his sister). A full birth story is in the works, so look for that next week. For now, here are a few pictures of our little guy! We are so in love!

Appreciating || so many friends and family members who are already feeding us, helping out, and loving us as a family of five! Thanks, everyone! Your support and love means so much to us.

Surviving || as well as I can on very little sleep. Last night was our hardest night yet, and we are hoping not to have another one quite like that. I don’t want to add too much caffeine back into my diet (I mean, I didn’t lay off of it completely but I had scaled it way back) until I know how D is gonna handle it. So for now I’m trying to survive on little sleep and little caffeine. Phew.

Learning || how to balance my attentions and my focus between my three kids, my husband, my house, etc. I have a feeling this may be a long journey to finding out exactly what’s best. EK is in camp again this week in the mornings, so that is a fun thing for her to do that helps me out as far as maybe sneaking a morning nap or getting some housework done. J also enjoys the break from EK, since they often like to play with the same toys. He likes a little time to be the main man around the house!

Enjoying || watching my kids love on each other. J and EK are both enthralled with the baby, wanting to kiss him and snuggle him and tickle him. It’s pretty darn cute, folks. And as always, I’m loving watching Hubby snuggle that tiny child. He is always so gentle and dear with a newborn, and it literally melts my heart to see him with one of our own little newborns again. Am I allowed to say that I wish we could have a tiny one all the time? Ha!

Well, I will try to update as much as I can through the busyness of this season, but if you don’t hear from me, don’t leave me! I promise I’ll be around on Facebook and Instagram, if not the blog. Look out for Toddler Tuesday tomorrow, because it’s coming for sure!

Please leave comments and tell me what’s going on with you currently!

A Letter to My Third Child – Mom Babble

Hi folks! In honor of my being 39 weeks today, Mom Babble has graciously decided my letter to baby D was worth publishing today! It’s my Mom Babble debut, and I absolutely LOVE their site… everything is honest, loving, and wonderful. It’s truly an amazing group of people, and you should absolutely subscribe if you haven’t already! Anyway, here’s a little snippet from my letter… check the rest out on Mom Babble, share it on Facebook or Twitter, and send it to a friend!

My sweet little Davis,

I’m getting really excited for you to get here. There are just nine weeks left until you’re due to arrive and I already wish I could see you next week. Mostly, I’m excited to meet you, see what you look like, and introduce you to your crazy siblings. I’m also getting uncomfortable, peeing all the time and sleeping less than ever. Mostly, I want to meet you.

I know you’ve been in my womb, hearing the squeals and shouts and cries and songs of your family. We may be a loud bunch, but we’re a good one. We love big and we show it often…

Things Toddlers Say

This past week we had a lovely visit from my brother and his girlfriend, and several nights spent with good friends. Naturally my kids behave way better in front of company (right?!) so this one is pretty good… and I’m totally ecstatic that J is joining the ranks of Toddlers Talking. Enjoy!

Picture this (I tried to get a picture unsuccessfully): EK walking around the house with her belly stuck way out, strutting about, talking about having a baby soon. For some reason, she was also talking strangely and had her head tucked in to create more chins. I’d like to say I don’t look like that. But it’s been happening all week.

EK, to my bro’s gf: Sometimes, I hit my brother, and Necie gets mad and spanks me. (Note: this doesn’t happen.)

Saying goodbye to my bro and his gf…
Me: Say, “bye bye!”
The kids: Bye, bye!
Me: Say, “Drive safe!”
EK: Don’t go any fast!
(Same sentiment, right?)

Shouted from across the room…
EK: Daddy! I wanna cucumba salaaaaad!
(My extremely unhealthy kid.)

A kid with an amazing memory…
EK: Mom! I see the hospital where we get the baby! (A conversation about this was had with Hubby the day before.)

Me, trying to stuff more breakfast in my kid: Joseph, would you like some of Mommy’s egg?
J: No! (Runs from the other room, mouth hanging open.)

Watching a friend open a bottle of wine, hands over her mouth… When he finally got it:
EK: You got it! You got it! Yay!
(Always worth celebrating.)

J eats a bite of cupcake: Happy birthday to you…. (It’s not anyone’s birthday. He just likes that song a lot.)

Me: EK, tell Andrea and Chris good night!
EK: Good night! Good night! (Turns to me.) Mom! I said good night to girl and boy!
Me: Well, you guys have been demoted. (EK totally knows their names.)

What funny things has your toddler said recently?

Happy Monday! I hope y’all had a wonderful weekend! I’m joining Becky at Choose Happy again this week for her currently link up. Lots of pictures in store for you today – I hope you enjoy it! Leave a comment or join the link up and let me know what’s going on with you!

Loving || Our finished shower! We chose a dark grout (it matches the wall color we chose almost perfectly!) to offset the white subway tile, and I really like the effect. We don’t have a door quite yet, because our old one is now too big, so we aren’t able to use it till we get one. Otherwise, I’m really happy with it! We need a little paint touching up in a few places, but it looks awesome.

Still undecided on the mirrors… there are two of those and they’ll be almost touching. What do you think?

Eating || at the Honey Pot! It’s a local restaurant here, and the chef is actually a friend of Hubby’s from high school. It is AMAZING. The food is fresh, mostly local, and really creative. Most of all, it’s plated beautifully and it’s outstandingly delicious! (If you’re local, check out their website here.) I wish I had taken a picture of every dish, but it was too good to not just eat it immediately. However, this dessert – a Georgia peach tart, with basil crema, accented with tiger lilies (who knew you could eat them?!) – was so beautiful I had to take a picture. And folks, it was as good as it looks. Really.

Growing || tomatoes and peppers! I mean, we are growing other stuff too, but those are our most fruitful plants at the moment. We’ve had one eggplant and some cucumbers and an ENORMOUS zucchini (I talked about that here) as well. Here are a few pictures I snapped last night as I was harvesting…

Planning
|| A baby shower! My sweet friend from college Melissa is expecting her first baby (a little girl!) in a couple of months, and my friend Lauren and I are throwing her a shower. We had a planning session this afternoon, and I can’t wait to post with a bunch of pictures after we shower her with love on Saturday!

Enjoying || this little series of photos. The first picture is the night before I had J… EK sprawled across my belly, the tiny little thing that she was, in her mismatched Christmas jammies. I’ve always loved that photo, and so now while I’m not so far away from having baby D, I thought it would be fun to try to recreate the moment with my two older sweeties sitting on top of their little brother!

Well, that’s about it in my world. Just waiting on baby D to get here! I have a post coming soon about how I packed my hospital bag – look for it this week!

What’s going on in your life currently?

5 Predictions About Life With 3 Kids

This post also appeared on My Big Jesus!
As I’m down to my last couple of weeks before baby #3 arrives, I am forced to think of what life will be like when he gets here. With a 3 year old, a 1 1/2 year old, and a newborn, I think it’s safe to say craziness is about to ensue. Here are a few more predictions of what might be happening:

There will be an (obvious) increase in laundry. I already do approximately one load per day with the four of us. That doesn’t necessarily mean that I do one complete load every single day… it often means I do five loads in one day, and take a few days off. But it would seem as though adding a person (no matter how tiny) will make it even more so. For instance, if this kid is like my other two, there will be one more swaddle per day to wash, and that’ll basically be an entire load a week of just swaddles. Sheesh.

There will be fewer showers/baths. I’m guessing I’ll cheat on the kids’ bedtime routine some nights (usually we do baths just before bed) and take baths out of the equation. I probably won’t shower as often, due to another person clinging to me. All around, that’s some water saved (that we’ll use on laundry).

We will be eating more takeout. What can I say? It’s just easier. Am I right? We can try to keep it healthy… you know… takeout salad and such.

I will be (even more) forgetful. I’m fully prepared to enter into the stage of “Did I brush my teeth today?” and “I thought I put my car keys right here!” and “When exactly is the last time I shaved my legs?” This pregnancy has been an indicator of that. It happens a little more with every kid, they say (at least I think they do). Pregnancy brain is nothing to joke about, but when I’m keeping up with three younguns, I just can’t be surprised that I’m still looking for the… for the… well, for whatever it is I’m always losing.

My heart will be too full to describe. Y’all, I already know this one is true. I’m already full-to-bursting with love for these little guys, so I can’t imagine what meeting the next one will do. I may just explode with happiness! You know, after I remember where I keep the coffee cups and wade my way through the umpteenth load of laundry. Love. It’ll all be about love.
